About the Role

We are seeking an experienced environment concept artist to support several ongoing projects. This paid freelancer role will be responsible for creating environment concepts to appear on our website, and to create concepts that inform work of other artists creating our animated web comic series.

While we are ultimately producing an animated web comic series, concept art can be more abstract allowing more artistic freedom. We are aiming to strike a balance between realism and not overly "cartoony".

A significant amount of our environment art will comprise locations in and around the city of Eden and so experience with concepting futuristic urban environments is a plus. Additional design notes are provided following an accepted offer and a signed NDA and Work for Hire Agreement.

Note: Becoming a freelancer for our project is not a guarantee for long-term work. We prioritize our budget across all aspects of our projects.

Requirements

  • Contracted freelancers must negotiate and offer a firm fixed price for each deliverable (or set of deliverables). This enables the contractor to adjust their rates based on the scope and complexity of work. Invoices are all paid within 1-5 business days following transfer of deliverables.

  • Contracted freelancers must agree to sign a Non-disclosure Agreement and Work for Hire Agreement while working in support of our projects.

  • Contracted freelancers must agree to license created artwork for our intended use, including either granting us a perpetual, exclusive commercial license or granting us ownership of the intellectual property in its entirety. Any license granted to us must include rights to use artwork in a variety of ways, including producing copies, modifying, distributing, displaying publicly, and creating derivative works.

  • Our contracts include our best efforts to prevent artwork from being used to train generative artificial intelligence models, and use verbiage taken directly from the NAVA AI Rider.

  • Contracted freelancers working from the United States (or those who are residents of the United States) must provide us with an IRS Tax Identification Number (TIN) if paid more than a total of $600 in a calendar year.

  • Contracted artists will always be credited (as is reasonably practical) for all future Greasepunk Paradise products and services where the contracted artist's work is displayed.

About Us

We are not a registered business or taxable business entity. We do not currently sell any products or services. All contracted work is provided to John Hanke directly, but delivery timelines are flexible and negotiable.

How to Apply

  • Interested candidates should submit an email to john.hanke@greasepunkparadise.com including an attached portfolio or URL to where we can learn more about you and your work.

  • In your email, be sure to include any focus or specialty where your skills may benefit our project. We recognize that no two artists are exactly the same, and so our intent is to assign work that people enjoy.

  • This job posting may be reused to hire multiple contractors to assign to different tasks based on areas of specialized skills and/or interests.
